Our Congregation is a local (Diocesan) Congregation which was founded on 26 December 1929 when the first three candidates were admitted. It was founded by Bishop Thomas Spreieter, the Benedictine Monk of St Ottilien. The bishop was assisted by Sr M Victorine Mandl, a Benedictine Sister of Tutzing who became the first ‘Mother General’ of this congregation. The official establishment of the Congregation was only achieved when the permission was granted by the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith in Rome on 5 December 1933 to start a new Congregation and open a Novitiate. This then automatically became the founding day which we celebrate every year. It belongs to the Diocese of Eshowe and has five dependent houses around this Diocese and is limited to it only, for now.
